The Work

One thought.
A fresh perspective.

The Work is a practice of self-inquiry developed by Byron Katie. It consists of four questions and turnarounds.

The Work

Four questions.
Space to listen.

There is no answer to perform. Slow down and notice what is true in your own experience.

01

Is it true?

02

Can you absolutely know that it’s true?

03

How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?

04

Who would you be without that thought?

Notice. Write. Inquire.

Choose a specific situation and write down a stressful thought. Explore it with the questions, allowing your answers to arise without rushing.

Turnarounds

Try turning the thought around to yourself, to the other person, or to its opposite. Look for concrete examples in your own experience—not a new belief you must force yourself to accept.

Self-inquiry is not a substitute for medical, psychological or psychotherapeutic care.
